Time on Page

Time on Page shows how long visitors actively view a page. It counts visible time only, so time while a tab is hidden or running in the background does not count.

Nothing to switch on

Time on Page is on by default. If your pages run our JavaScript tracking, they are already measuring it — there is no setting to enable and no change to make to your pages.

It does need the JavaScript tag on the page. Redirect-only tracking does not produce a Time on Page measurement.

See the FunnelFlux JavaScript tracking overview for where to find and add the Universal JS Code, and Javascript tracking of page views for direct-link page views.

Turning it off for a page

You are unlikely to need this, but you can stop Time on Page measurement on a specific page by setting the timeOnPage option to false before the Universal JS Code:

<script>
var fluxOptions = {
timeOnPage: false
}
</script>

The JavaScript tag reads this option when it loads, so it must appear before the tag.

How measurements are recorded

FunnelFlux records one Time on Page measurement for each pageview when the visitor leaves the page. The final measurement is fire-and-forget: it does not delay navigation, so an occasional measurement can be lost. This is normal by design.

Use Time on Page in reports

Add Avg. Time on Page as a metric in your report columns to see the average visible time for each row.

You can also group report data by either of these attributes:

  • Insight: Time on Page
  • Insight: Time on Page Segments

The segment attribute groups measurements into:

  • 0–10s
  • 10–30s
  • 30–60s
  • 1–3m
  • 3–10m
  • 10m+
  • No Data

Pages with no Time on Page data show 0 in reports.

Availability

Time on Page is available to every FunnelFlux account at no extra cost. There is no plan or tier requirement.
