Tracking Setup with Outbrain

This guide explains how to set up tracking between FunnelFlux Pro and Outbrain.

Step 1: Add Outbrain as a Traffic Source

  1. Go to Traffic Sources > New
  2. Search for "Outbrain" in the template list
  3. Select the Outbrain template

The template configures the following tracking fields:

Slot

Field Name

Token

campaign

campaign

{{campaign_id}}

external

external

{{ob_click_id}}

c1

ad_id

{{ad_id}}

c2

pub_id

{{publisher_id}}

c3

pub_name

{{publisher_name}}

c4

section_id

{{section_id}}

c5

section_name

{{section_name}}

Cost type: Cost Per Event/Click (no automatic cost token available — you may need to update costs manually)

Step 2: Create Your Campaign URL

After creating the traffic source:

  1. Build a funnel in the Funnel Builder
  2. Click the traffic node and select Outbrain as the traffic source
  3. Copy the generated tracking link

Use this tracking link as the destination/campaign URL in Outbrain. The URL includes all tracking field parameters, so Outbrain will automatically replace the tokens with real values when a user clicks your ad.

Step 3: Set Up Conversion Tracking

Outbrain uses a postback URL for conversion tracking. The template pre-configures this in the Conversion Tracking tab.

The postback URL is:

https://tr.outbrain.com/unifiedPixel?ob_click_id={external}&name=EVENT_NAME&orderId={txid}&orderValue={payout}

Copy this URL and paste it into Outbrain's postback or conversion tracking settings.

In this URL:

  • {external} is a FunnelFlux token replaced with the stored click ID from Outbrain
  • {payout} is replaced with the conversion revenue amount

When a conversion happens in FunnelFlux, it fires this postback to notify Outbrain of the conversion.

Optional: Updating Costs

If cost tokens are not available or not accurate for your campaign type, you can manually update costs in FunnelFlux:

  1. Go to Update Costs in FunnelFlux
  2. Export your cost data from Outbrain
  3. Match the data by campaign ID and any relevant tracking fields
  4. Import the cost data
